Attack of the fairies!

Much to the delight of my young daughter, there seems to be an influx of fairy-related activities in Chelsea, MI this spring. The Garden Mill and Cranesbill Books co-hosted a "Create a Fairy House" workshop in March, and it was so popular that both sessions filled up extremely quickly, with requests continuing to come in long past the big day. We were lucky to have signed up early, and I was thrilled to see the beautiful fairy home my daughter created, with dried flowers, polished stones, and other lovely items from nature.

This weekend, Chelsea had two more fairy events. One was an encore of the Fairy House Workshop, this time held at the Chelsea Center for the Arts. I'll be eager to hear if this will be a regular offering at the CCA. The other was an adorable fairy tea party hosted by the Chelsea Library. Little girls attended the event in their finest dress-up attire to enjoy dainty snacks, a performance by the Youth Dance Theatre ballerinas, and then participated the pinkest parade I have ever seen!

The fairy doors in Ann Arbor are very well known among fairy enthusiasts, and have been reported on NPR, The Washington Post, and others. (Just Google "fairy door Ann Arbor" to find more). I wonder if any places in Chelsea will follow suit?

Things To Blog in Chelsea

It's a new blog! This is a spin-off of the Things To Do In Chelsea website, as well as my personal blog relating to things going on around Chelsea, Michigan.

The Things To Do In Chelsea website has been going strong since 2005, and I strive to keep it very "on topic" so it can be a fairly unbiased online resource for the community. But sometimes I have the urge to say things like "Hey cool! A new store on Main Street!" or "I took a really fun class last night". The main site isn't really the place for my own chit chat, so I create this blog instead.

Also, this will be a place where I can talk about site updates. For example, right now I'm knee-deep in making huge improvements to the functionality of the events listing on the site, as well as giving it a real home on the web instead of being hosted on my Surelutions business site. Soon you'll be able to submit events using an online form, and it will be very quickly added to the site. It will reduce a 10 step process down to 2 steps. It's an exciting opportunity, and also a little scary because it's going to cost me some real money to do it. Stay tuned!
